Memorial Day is celebrated so we remember the men and women who died while serving our country; it’s about our freedom. Yes, it’s a day to celebrate the unofficial beginning of “summer” in the U.S. But, more importantly, and this year more than ever, it’s important to celebrate our freedom and remember we are lucky to live in the United States of America. We must remember we are a free country. We are free to practice the religion of our choice. We are free to come and go as we please. We are free to speak our thoughts, whether we agree with what’s said or not (but in no way, shape, or form with violence or hatred).
We live in a democracy – a system of government by the whole population or all of the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives; control of an organization or group by the majority of its members.
We do not live in a totalitarian state, thank God. We do not live in a communistic state, thank God. We do not live in a dictatorship. We must remember so we keep our freedom alive. We must remember what Hitler did and the devastation he caused to millions of people. We must stand up for our freedom and the truth. Always, and especially now during these times of uncertainty with the pandemic and racial tensions/protests, stand back and research the truths of what is being said to protect our freedom so freedom is not lost. Freedom we have because of the brave men and women who died for our country.
Memorial Day; What It’s Really About
One of my favorite songs, “God Bless The U.S.A.,” by Lee Greenwood, says it all:
If tomorrow all the things were gone
I worked for all my life
And I had to start again
With just my children and my wife
I thank my lucky stars
To be living here today
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can’t take that away
And I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I’d gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
From the lakes of Minnesota
To the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas
From sea to shining sea
From Detroit down to Houston
And New York to L.A.
Where’s pride in every American heart
And it’s time we stand and say
That I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I’d gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
And I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I’d gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
