How to Invest In Your Book Like A Professional

April 1, 2020 by Peter Wietmarschen Leave a Comment

Invest in your book!

When it comes to publishing your book and doing it right, you need to invest in yourself and your book. But investing in your book is not just about spending money, it’s about investing time and energy as well. When you understand where you to invest properly you will see the biggest returns for your book, your business, and yourself.

Invest in Time, Energy, & Money

Time, energy, and money, the three main areas authors need to invest.

Time

First, we have time. This seems like a no-brainer but time is the biggest area of your life you will see impacted when you publish your book and as we all know, time is a valuable resource. The investment of time goes beyond the time it takes to write your book. You also need to understand the timeline required to make sure your book is professionally published.

One of the biggest mistakes we’ve seen from authors is trying to rush their publishing date. While self-publishing your book can be completed in a shorter time frame than a traditional publishing house, there are still time considerations to keep in mind. It’s more important to have a longer timeline than one which will leave you cutting corners or not being properly prepared to launch.

Energy

Along with time you will need to put more effort into writing, publishing, and marketing your book. You won’t have to do it all alone, but there are tasks which you need to consider adding to your routine. The obvious addition is writing time; the more consistently you can sit down to write the better.

Another energy consideration goes into marketing. Will you go on a speaking tour? Are you going to host a book launch or other author reading/signing event? Do podcasts spark your interest? Remember this: If you want your book to be successful, you need to spend the time and energy to market your book.

Money

No matter what, you will need to invest money in your book. Here is where you need to be smart. Yes, you can go to Fivvr and buy your book cover or you could have your aunt edit your book. But, if you invest in the professionals who understand your genre and what readers expect from your book, you are going to see much higher returns in your sales.

Think of it this way. Have you ever complained about how a brand’s quality has just gone downhill? It’s usually because they cut corners and spend less money on their materials or labor. In the end, brands who do that suffer from lower sales. In order to have your book and your brand known with quality, you will want to make sure to invest in the proper places.

Our top three professionals to invest in when you are writing your book:

  1. Editor
  2. Cover/layout designer
  3. Marketer

These three professionals will make sure your book meets the highest quality standards, matches the genre’s expectations, and meets your demands.
