Quarter 1: The, good, the bad, the ugly, and more

April 7, 2020 by Peter Wietmarschen Leave a Comment

Review Your Quarter 1

You’re lying if during your yearly planning session you predicted having a quarantine. The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly created a huge shift in our daily lives, both personally and professionally. It’s no surprise our Quarter 1 goals might not have been reached. Being the beginning of April and with the crazy times we’re living through, it’s a good time to re-evaluate your Quarter 1 goals and look into your Quarter 2.

Looking Back

Take a day this week to sit down and re-evaluate the past three months. What were your goals for Quarter 1? Did you meet your revenue goals? Did you increase your client base? Were you consistent with your marketing? See what you accomplished and look at how you can adapt your future goals to accomplish more.

Looking Ahead to Quarter 2

After looking at your Quarter 1 accomplishments, you will more than likely need to adjust your Quarter 2 goals and objectives. In a weird sense of things, the pandemic might give us entrepreneurs and authors a step up in our own businesses. We’re quick and easily able to adapt to our changing situations. We have loads of knowledge and experience to help others. How can you best use this time? It will be different for each of us but here are three quick ideas from Colleen and me.

Be of service

In times like this we need to remember to be of service to our clients and readers. How can you be of service to others? You might look at providing a better sense of community with your clients. For example, you might want to host a Zoom call open to anyone who wants to chat. One of our authors is a children’s author and she shared a few coloring pages from her book with families.  You might be like us and create a new virtual hangout, like our book club! Having a consistent reach on social media is key. Right now, having an engaged following and community is crucial!

Look ahead

One of the best pieces of advice we received from our business coach was simple: What you do today will show results in 90 days. Look ahead at how you can use this time to be of service and you will see dividends in three months. If we are of service to each other now, we will reap the benefits in the future. One way we are looking into the future is we joined a networking group. Usually they meet in person but are now meeting virtually. We join the calls a few times each week and can meet people from Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and beyond.

Be Digital

Today’s world has forced us all to be digital. A lot of businesses already have gone digital but how can you expand your digital presence? We’ve already mentioned a few things like hosting Zoom book clubs, having virtual networking meetings, and being present on social media. But there are many other ways to be digital. If you are an author, is your book on Kindle? Can you do a virtual book reading? How about a webinar? The only limit to your creativity is your imagination. Find ways to adapt!

Lessons From Quarter 1

With a huge paradigm shift, its important to learn from where you’ve been. If you honestly look at your Quarter 1 accomplishments and apply your findings to the current state of affairs, you will see greater results than you can imagine! Once you know where you’ve been, you can then apply how you can be of service, look into the future, and have a digital presence. If you do these things you will see great returns in the future!
